Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling is a medical procedure where multiple fine, sterile needles are used to cause controlled microinjuries to the skin, which in turn promotes skin healing, collagen and elastin production, and helps to treat fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, stretch marks, large pores, hair loss, and pigmentation.

One method of microneedling is using a Dermaroller (we do not recommend this method as the injury caused to the skin can be unpredictable, and can cause harm rather than healing). At Dr Malaika Clinics we use the Revitalise microneedling pen, along with multi award winning MyFiller serums to rejuvenate your skin. We can also use serums proven to help dissolve stubborn fat, others to encourage hair growth, some to tighten loose skin, and more.

As a medical aesthetics clinic, we are able to treat a wider range skin complaints, and can penetrate the skin deeper than non-medical processionals, and than derma rollers are able to go. This allows us to that we can treat scars, and stretch marks and drive the active ingredients of the serums deeper in to your skin.

Before attending for microneedling treatments it is recommended that you avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil supplements for a week before your appointment (unless these are prescribed by your GP/consultant). Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. After your appointment, avoid applying any skincare products, including makeup, to your skin for at least 24 hours (or until your skin has calmed). Avoid certain products such as retinols and acids for 5 days. Once your skin has calmed, ensure that you wear SPF every day (avoid any sun exposure until you are able to apply SPF). Ensure you keep hydrated, and avoid any strenuous exercise or heat such as saunas/steam room – sweating can encourage bacteria to enter the micro channels created by your treatment.
